Best ABAP Books
I have purchased all four A2F books so I must be a fan-boy.The books are perfect for ABAPers with some minimal background in ABAP.IMO at least one A2F book is a must for ABAPers w/o much object oriented experience.I do not think it matters too much which edition, although the second edition I have already given away.I think every company should purchase a personal copy of this book for each and every one of their ABAPers and then give them a paid week to read it and practice what is in it on their own ABAP system (e.g. IDES running on a virtual machine). That, to me, would be a much better usage of an “education budget” than most SAP classes. As an aside, this is the first (and only) ABAP book where I regulary crack up laughing while reading/using it.
Many changes compared to first edition
I wrote the review for the first edition of this book and it fully applies to this one as well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1WR3BDS8I8DPB/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=1493211617 This is great literature and we are lucky to have great writers like Paul in SAP community. The differences between 2nd and 1st edition were not that significant but even if you already have the 1st edition I recommend buying the 3rd one because there is a lot of new material. Below is a detailed comparison on 1st vs 3rd edition.1. ABAP in Eclipse is now a separate chapter and has been expanded2. abapGit is a new chapter that reflects the importance of the subject. abapGit can be used even with older SAP systems and I highly recommend it to anyone. As always, Paul’s explanation is excellent.3. New Language Features chapter covers 7.53 version4. ABAP Unit still has a prominent chapter and is now more about “test doubles” vs. mock objects in 1st edition.Exception classes, SALV, BRF+, BOPF, SAPUI5, programming for HANA are all still in this edition (somewhat updated). The chapter on BRF+ is the best learning source on the subject. ABAP Channels chapter was already in 2nd edition but not in the 1st one. ABAP2XLSX chapter seems to be the only one removed, compared to both previous editions. There is no separate chapter for SAP Gateway but the parts that are buried in SAPUI5 chapter also contain one of the best explanations of how to use it. I’ve read numerous blogs and articles on this, as well as had access to the book dedicated to SAP Gateway. But Paul’s explanation just makes everything more clear in much less time than other sources.Verdict: if you only have 1st edition or never read this book, it is a must have for any ABAPer. Compared to 2nd edition, abapGit is the only new chapter, it seems, and updates are not as major as compared to the 1st edition, so it’s up to you whether to buy this one or hold off until the next edition.Disclosure: I was provided a free electronic copy of the book by the publisher. I was not asked to post a review and it is my honest personal opinion.
Está en inglés, pero es súper completo, toca todos los aspectos de las nuevas versiones de ABAP, creo que quizás es para personas que ya tengan conocimientos básicos
Godd book not for beginners , but very comprehensive guide for SAP ABAP development
Just received the book. Impeccable packaging by the seller. The book covers good portion of CDS and AMDPs. I have not red the past two edition, but itbseems this will do quite good. More reviews to follow.
SAP in general and ABAP in particular is in state of flux. It’s maddening to an ABAP developer at times to deal with the pace at which SAP Is changing. This book let’s one find some method in the madness.
