A must read for anyone developing, using or thinking of regulating AI
I recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about the impacts of AI on individuals and society, and how to play a role in shaping the future towards positive outcomes. The book presents a clear and convincing exposition of AI’s limitations and harms and offers a constructive perspective on how to think about them. The examples used to illustrate the points are relevant and top-of-mind for any reader thinking about this space. Bravo!
Useful text on dangers of predictive AI and principles for AI adoption
I’m a reader of Narayanan’s and Kapoor’s newsletter but still found plenty of new and useful information in this new book. Specifically, not only their perspectives on the challenges of predictive AI but also their pragmatic use cases, cautionary tales, and suggestions for combating the multiple forces that are pushing predictive AI. Similarly, their observations around the disparate groups that may contribute to AI hype were unique and they included pragmatic advice to sift through the hype. Finally, readers will benefit from their plain language discussion around what is probably hype, what probably isn’t hype, and which applications of AI we should pay attention to because of the potential or already-demonstrated instances of abuse.
Nothing new here ,mostly history available via open source resources
I was expecting much from this, but this is essentially a summary of what has happened in this field which is open and readily available in the field in open resources.
A must read for anyone who is interested in AI! Not only for Computer or AI professionals, but for all of us, whose lives are impacted by AI.
Sayash in his cool and calm demeanor unravels the complex space of AI, specifically demystifying whats possible and whats not.
