  1. An excellent resource at the intersection of AI and business
Earlier this year, I founded a new consulting and coaching company that helps market researcher prepare for artificial intelligence. As part of this work, it’s essential that I stay up-to-speed on the many advances happening at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and sensory and consumer science. It’s for this reason that, every Friday, I publish our weekly round-up of news in this area. As I have worked on these articles, a resource that has often come up in my searches is the excellent work of Bernard Marr – a UK-based consultant, speaker, and author who does an excellent job of popularizing the many advances in AI and adjacent technologies.I was thus excited when Mr. Marr released a new book earlier this year titled, “Artificial Intelligence in Practice: Artificial Intelligence in Practice: How 50 Successful Companies Used AI and Machine Learning to Solve Problems,” and bought it immediately. This book contains 50 business case studies of how large companies such as McDonald’s and Unilever are implementing AI in myriad ways. The book is well-organized, with the 50 studies grouped into 5 categories – tech, retail/CPG, media, financial/healthcare, and manufacturing – and with each case study following the same format to simplify reading. Each case study requires about 5 minutes to read, so the book is well-suited to reading one case study a day for 50 days. I bought the Kindle format so I could read one case study whenever I had a free moment, such as when I was waiting in line. The book does not cover the topics in technical detail – instead, the book is valuable because it raises awareness of possibilities. Moreover, by presenting case studies from a wide variety of applications, the book supports cross-pollination between fields and industries, so that someone like me, working in the CPG sector, can learn from someone working in manufacturing (and vice-versa).In summary, if you’re interested in business-use cases for AI, this book is essential reading. Do as I did – download a Kindle copy and read one case study a day. You’ll be delighted you did!

  2. Buy this if you want an Overview
There were many contradicting reviews about how useful this book is, so I was a bit sceptical. Having gone through most of it (yet to cover the last 50 odd pages) I can definitely say that I find it useful. It discusses real business cases on how AI has been put to use across leading organizations. If you are just reading as a layman to understand what AI can do, this is a good reference. Do not buy if you want to understand technicalities on AI since this is not a tutorial nor that the author claims it to be one.

  3. Broad coverage of AI, but not much depth.
The book is really just a summary of 50 companies and how they each applied AI to solve a business problem. No in depth study or details. If you are already have a big picture idea of how AI is being applied in industries, then maybe you can skip this book.

  4. Great read. Very informative, couldn’t put down
Was hoping for a bit more technical book, but as with his other work, it is verry well written. A great read, informative and documented.

  5. Excellent book on artificial intelligence and business
Great case studies. I learned a lot from this book. Excellent narraton I recommend this book for everyone in business. Essential information for everyone

  6. Extraordinarily practical, detailed and an easy read!
I have recently been reading and digging into the subject of Artificial Intelligence, and this book ranks top especially in the various practical applications and ways we have been reaping the benefits of AI (even without knowing). I have made jottings for my benefit and to share with my classes and audiences going forward. Thank you Mr. Bernard Marr.

  7. Informative and well written
I can understand by some of the negative reviews that this book might not be for everyone, but it exceeded my expectations and is one of the best books I’ve read in quite a while! This book is not a detailed book on the technical underpinnings of AI.This book IS a well thought out compilation of practical real world use cases exploring 50 different companies who are investing in AI and provides insight into the strategic opportunities (of today and tomorrow) across many industries. If you are looking to learn about how businesses are leveraging AI technology and using it to create value, this book is for you.Could you find all this information by yourself searching the internet? Maybe so, but the time it would take you to find the companies that are AI trendsetters and read through everything needed to gather this level of information would be way more time consuming and ineffective vs. the few bucks to pickup this book!

  9. A very nice and easy to read book with a good range of real life applications of AI and ML today. In this ever changing environment, companies try to eek out as much as they can in terms of profitability. Some of it comes from product enhancements, some of it from better service and some of it from quality. However, one common denominator is data that companies hold for the consumers as well as their own products, processes, etc. This books talks about all these not in a technical manner, but in one that a layman can understand. That is, to an extent, the beauty of this book.I have to admit the examples are somewhat US centric for me, but there is enough of a variety in there. Also, sometimes, I’d like some more detail on a specific AI implementation, but that’s just the validation in me asking for more information to get to the bottom of how something works!Overall, a pleasant read for people who want to get ideas and see what’s been happening across a range of industries in relation to AI.

  10. Looks like Mr. Marr hired half a dozen (or only Matt Ward) of non-native english speakers with low pay and asked them to collect all information related to AI/ML available on www. The contents of book are written by more than one person. For any serious reader it will come to mind that the information provided could have gotten on internet. Knowing name of a duck does not imply you know everything about the duck !. similarly repeating NLP, ML, AI throughout the book will not give reader a considerable insight into how exactly AI is used. Writing style from case study to next case study is different. There are spelling mistakes in the book ! The book is worth less than what is being charged. Authors seem to be carrying an attitude of rob money from its readers by providing them with substandard contents in their book.
