  1. This is essential if you want to the Security+ exam.
If you’re new to the cybersecurity world and want to be taken seriously by HR then one of the first certifications you should have on your resume is the Security+ certification by CompTIA. Mike Chapple is one of the few authors who’s way of teaching the subject matter of cybersecurity (blue team/defense) approachable to a vast audience. In conjunction with this guide I would also encourage potential buyers to also purchase his study notes on Security+ ( In PDF format) on his website which you find by doing a quick Google search : certmike.com. Hope this helps!

  2. Good Enough
My employer requires my position to possess a Security+ certificate. I am a programmer by nature, not an IT person. I bought this book, read it, and took 98 pages of notes. I then bought the companion practice exam book and glanced at the first 3 chapters of the exam book (I ran out of time and didn’t get through it, my test was already scheduled). I took the test and passed with a 753. Ultimately, however good or bad this book is, it did the job for me. If you buy this book and seriously read it, you should be able to pass the test. Also, the practice exams are reasonably in the vein of the actual test (not exactly the same questions, but very similar).

  3. Book is what you’d expect
It’s a study guide for the 701 sec+ exam. If that’s what you need, it’s perfect.

  4. Better of the two
I read two different guides, and this was hands down the better one. Buying a second book was cheaper than paying for the retake, and I had time before the test.

  5. Book is great, online resources not so much
The book itself is clearly written and concise (I know it’s over 500 pages, but trust me, it could be way longer). I used it in combination with Mike Chapple’s video series, and I’ve found the book to be very useful for review and reinforcing some of my weaker concepts. The questions (short quizzes at the end of each chapter + 2 full-length exams) are clearly written as well, though occasionally the explanations aren’t much more than repetition of the question and answer.
I took one star off because the publisher’s website makes review questions unnecessarily difficult to access. Ironically given the subject matter, Wiley manages to make getting into the test bank both extremely annoying without actually doing much to prevent unauthorized access. When you try to register, the instructions that they send you in email don’t actually work. Instead, you have to find this book among every other CompTIA study guide they have published, then prove you own the book by looking up a random word. Of course, they don’t actually give you a page number, just a general section. Logging back in is not intuitive either, since there is no way to access the Sybex test banks from Wiley’s main portal (at least that I’ve been able to find).
In summary: good book, but a star off mostly for the publisher’s third-rate web design.

  6. Online Test Bank is extremely difficult to access
Anyone else having a hard time accessing the online practice test?? I’ve been attempting for days!

  7. Binder makes it easier to make remarks as I study…especially for a left handed person
Never knew that it was available in a binder, that works much better than just a book for studying…

  8. Received book in good condition. Pages are thick and of good quality. Printing is also good though it took some time for delivery.. I think its not available in india yet because this is a newly launched exam version.. the book is printed in UK..
Now coming to the content, very helpful in terms of preparation for the security+ exam.. looking forward to get certified soon..

  9. Should you wish to pass the CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam, you’ll need this book. It definitely will provide you a solid foundation to address the various domains you’ll need to master.
Already familiar with the writing style of the 2 authors, who have also published the CISSP OSG and CCSP OSG, this is a very easy and comprehensible read.
    An absolute must have!
