Required Reading for DevOps
A really solid primer into the basics of effective DevOps organization and the value and importance of moving from a more traditional Development and Operational structure into a blended DevOps one. I’d really recommend reading Dr. Peters’s analysis and thoughts on the matter and taking them to heart when you are promoting cooperating between engineering and operational staff for more effective agile development.
Overview – A solid publication on DevOps written by a professional
This is an overview based on skim-reading the book. I’ll change once I’ll read the full book. This publication is a medium level of abstraction book on DevOps – you will learn about various topics such as basics of DevOps, Observability, comparison between DevOps SDLC with other SDLC models out there, testing. It is well suited for entry level professionals as well as for people who are in the know but would like to learn more by reading a different point of view from another well experienced professionalin the field.Chapters about DevOps practices and security are interesting and I’d say practical.I think I’ll add this publication to my recommendations during DevOps classes that I teach.Await full review.
Great intro into DevOps
I don’t normally use DevOps but have always been interested. This book was great at starting from the beginning to build a background, and then introduce me to some of the technical challenges. In all fairness, I am not a tech pro, but hear my spouse using these terms all the time and I have been interested. The strategies, stories, analogies, and commitment to a solid foundation really helped me read the book. The author does exceptional work in making even the deeply technical eminently reachable. While I’m not ready to launch a DevOps start up on my own, the book really helped make our dinner-table conversation more enjoyable. Recommend for anyone in tech, or in relationship with someone in tech.
Simplifies DevOps
I wrote the book so I have to advocate for it. I tried to compile all my knowledge and share through examples, analogies and stories. For me, this provides first a solid foundation to advocate for DevOps through a SWOT based comparison to other program management techniques like Waterfall, Agile, and GitOps among others. Next, I explored the basic technology associated with DevOps through Security, Observability, Testing and Pipelines. Finally, I explored use-cases and the mindset needed from the entire organization to succeed with DevOps. I think it is an excellent and fast read.
