Must-read for any business person who want to stay afloat
Digital Transformation Game Plan is an excellent guide for executives and businesspeople to reexamine what they are doing within their organization and use agile methodologies to make incremental and sustainable change. They effectively describe what it takes for a business to become more adaptable to an ever changing digital landscape by bringing technology into the core of the business strategy. DTGP is both theoretical in describing the principles leading to this necessary change, and actionable as it provides direct ways to execute within the organization. I now have specific steps I can use to track and reference as I go along the process within a business. As a digital transformation consultant myself, I found the book to be very well-written and digestible, while bringing a modern understanding of how to transform into a modern digital business.
Specific audience
“Digital Transformation Game Plan: 34 Tenets for Masterfully Merging Technology and Business” by Gary O’Brien, Guo Xiao, and Mike Mason is a book where the author try to make the subject as readable and interesting as possible. I got through it and understood more than I thought I would, but with that said, it is for a specific audience of business professionals who are in the tech/information section or at minimum, the reader has a comfort level with the jargon. So while I was able to read through it and get some good info from it, I’d say that a person who is the intended audience would probably get more out of it than I did.
A holistic, pragmatic and actionable point of view on digital transformation.
This is a book you want to read and have always handy. Why ? Because it takes a holistic view at âdigital transformationâ going well beyond technology to explore the required shifts needed in the organization structure, ways of working and leadership mindset of companies. Something I appreciate is that provides real, practical and actionable advice, something difficult to find in books discussion this subject. Plus, it comes with the usual ThoughtWorksâ signature seal of pragmatism in regards to technology innovation.A must to read.
Digital Transformation demystified – Very insightful
I met a lot of senior leaders and everyone is talking about digital transformation however everyone has a different understanding of what it means to transform their organization and become a modern digital business. This book provides great insights into what it truly means to become digital and what are the pillars for a truly digital organization (product driven organization, platform strategy, frictionless operating model, data driven decision making and engineering culture). It also helps the organization chart their journey across the different dimension of modern digital business and chart a roadmap which is relevant for them. I love the idea Digital Fluency Model, not all enterprises need to be facebook or Netflix..figure out what is relevant for their business and chart your own journey. I love the summary in form of key points at the end of each chapter.
Another Digital Transformation book, but the best one.
A lot of incumbent companies have introduced the Digital Transformation term in their strategies, technology projects, organizational processes, and business models. That is the good news, the bad news is the results. This book provides a practical, logical, different, challenging and, surely, the right way to confront the technology adoption and organizational change initiative to be relevant in the Digital Age.
Integrating Business and Technology
Interesting read on the integration of business and technology. Just over 300 pages, many topics are addressed, including:- Understanding customer value.- Sharing information so more people in the organization can make better decisions.- Using technology for decision-making.- Developing your talent.- The future of business IT departments.- Importance leadership plays in the business and technology integration.- Aspects of technology that business executives should know.Good and informative read.
Sometimes esoteric but not often
I had a specific reason for reading this book and my goal was met. I’ve worked in technology for a couple of decades but I’ll admit to finding some sections to be rather esoteric. That said, it is a good book, well-written and one that I recommend for anyone who wants to drive organizational change. It builds on the fundamental concepts of creating the right environment, being pragmatic and deliberate in your approach, and focusing on customer value. Well worth the read.
Practical Aspects
This book is less about adapting to catch up with technology as it is about evolving to be flexible, adaptive and unafraid. I liked the practical aspects. At the end of each chapter there is a list of key pounts. Following the points are two action steps to take. Technology impacts virtually every aspect of business. A company must be willing to recognize and impkement changes to keep it viable. Interesting read with a good practical bent.
Everyone who has ever been involved in a digital transformation project knows how hard it is. There are a lot of books on the subject – but this one is far better than most. It addresses some of the hard things around transformation in a very practical, sensible, and easy to read way. Obviously written by people who have actually carried through transformations – rather than just written strategy pieces about transformation.
