Just Enough Research: 2024 Edition

  1. The gold (orange?) standard for research best practices
Context: I’m a director-level UX professional with over 20 years experience in the industry. I have every edition of this book; the author continues to add new content relevant to the current state of our industry while maintaining the classic foundation of research best practices. It is hands-down my most frequently referenced and recommended book. It offers practical advice based in real-world context, and the writing is clear, concise, and sprinkled with just enough humor (see what I did there?). I used the second edition of this book as the primary course materials for a graduate-level class I taught in user research, because there is simply not another book out there that provides this much valuable advice in such a small and reasonably-priced package.

  2. The standard for accessible research gets an update
For well over a decade, Erika’s book has been the standard for those of us without testing facilities or focus groups. More importantly teaching us that research comes in many shapes and sizes. This update draws from 10+ additional years of experience to refine and build upon that standard. Those who are unfamiliar with Erika’s writing should do themselves a favor and READ THIS BOOK.However, even those who know the 1st Edition inside and out will benefit from this latest copy.

  3. Nothing you can’t get for free online in any UX research article. I don’t think it’s worth the hype.
