Exceptionally well written and worth the money
This book is a gem. I bought it because I wanted to understand what being an ML Engineer entitles and it delivered. While it’s on the expensive side, the knowledge inside is well worth it. The diagrams are easy to read and it is well organized. I like that the author added her own experience in navigating her career in this field and also provided information about possible paths for those of non-traditional ML educational backgrounds.
Deserves 0 stars, don’t buy. Save your time and money, get Chip Huyens book
I’ve been an ML engineer at various FAANG companies for 5 years now. I’ve read a myriad of O’Reilly books and ML-specific books as well. This is one of the absolute worst books I’ve read, and the fact it cost over $70 is astonishing. Half of the book is nothing but platitudes and information that you can find scattered throughout LinkedIn from various writers. Things a quick Google search on ‘How to get an interview at X’ or ‘How to interview at Y’ would reveal. I am not sure what the intention was for this book, outside of scamming the reader. Save yourself the time and money, and read through the sample of the book as it shows its emptiness. If you are still dedicated, I urge you to get a physical copy as you can return that once you realize your mistake. Save yourself the time and money and buy Chip Huyen’s book, it’s better than this in every single regard.
so-so
not bad, not good
Half the book isnt about ML; covers LinkedIn, applying w/refs, and basic tips a freshman would give
“I currently work in backend and am trying to learn more about ML and was hoping this would be a nice intro as the author literally said… It did not do that. The chapters of the books did not have anything captivating or insightful, it indeed was very high level talking on points Ive read about 1000 times over for FREE. I was hoping that this was a whopping $80 that I would get some additional value and I didn’t.I’ll also mention the first half of the book is useless tips on networking such as “build your network!” the author tries to tell you how to use linkedin which I found mind boggling for a book made for machine learning, youre spending 10% talking on how to use linkedin, 10% on “get a referral, if not just apply” and a myriad of other 10%’s on random intro level stuff any freshman can give you. As much as I appreciate the effort, this book is not worth the money. Better off getting a course on Coursera or something
