10/10 sound, actionable advice for B2B tech marketers
Excellent and digestible read by one of the greats in B2B tech marketing! Should be required reading for founder/CEOS, PMM teams, and CMOs.
A GREAT READ!
The amount of time between having Make It Punchy pop up on my LinkedIn feed for the first time and finishing the book was about a little over 36 hours! The reason is because this book is HELPFUL! I was pulled in and waited until I could dedicate the next day to read it and made my purchase and then consumed it with ease. Make It Punchy not only offers helpful solutions to writing punchier but also offers helpful assignments to guide you through the process. As someone who works in marketing, I am always trying to perfect the art of the best marketing copy, and Make It Punchy helped me in little more than a day and a half! Thank you, Emma, for sharing your vast knowledge and expertise.
Rescuing B2B Messaging from Buzzword Hell
For the sake of B2B buyers everywhere, Punchy needs to be in every marketer’s hands… asap! Here’s to a future where websites explain what products actually do. Where trade show booths don’t all sound the same. And where ads, taglines, and feature lists don’t lean on “leverage” or “enable” as a crutch. That’s what Punchy is here for â it’s an easy read full of practical tips and frameworks to create content people will actually connect with.More than that, it’s an important reminder to respect our audience’s time, cut the fluff, and focus on what matters to the customer.Highly recommend the book and catching Emma on podcasts â hearing her talk through her experience adds even more credence to why this book is so needed.
I feel seen!
If youâre doing any writing whatsoever you should get your hands on this book.Emmaâs breakdown for great messaging is practical, logical, and itâll get your wheels turning.Reading this book wonât just teach you.Itâll make you feel seen. She packed it with what feels like your own private FAQs.She knows what you’re worried about, she acknowledges it and breaks down every concern you can think of so youâre confident to give it a try.It was a fast read that went straight to the ‘quick reference’ pile for me.And her brown snow cone messaging example now lives rent-free in my head alongside its April Dunfordâs cake on a stick (if you have no idea what I’m talking about get your hands on Obviously Awesome too).Do yourself, your content peeps and your sales team a favor and get it.
Views of a Technology Buyer
As a long-time buyer of technology I’ve been the target of a variety of messaging techniques, and I know what works for me. I found that approaches similar to those described in Make It Punchy were the ones that sold me most often. This book, which is replete with real-world examples, maps out a process to develop successful messaging. It turns out that I may have been an “A+ Customer” to some of my suppliers, and I now realize why their messaging resonated with me. I commend this book to anyone who wants their messaging to stand out among their competitors.
Make It Punchy – Messaging that connects to humans
As product marketing professionals, we often use messaging for B2B that sounds very businesslike and sometimes robotic. Emma Stratton’s Make it Punchy takes you from the thought process and strategy to implementing messaging that can help you connect emotionally with your buyers.Throw away the technical jargon because most people don’t careâthey have heard it so many times. If you want to stand out in the crowd, you need to get close to your customers and communicate their desires and pain points.I have started using the techniques, and it feels great to write messaging that connects with humans!
A no-nonsense way to make sense of effective tech messaging
I’ve been following Emma for some time and have always gotten so much from her posts. So the moment announced the pre-order for her book, I ran (not literally) to Amazon to make sure I’d have it the moment it was available.Make it Punchy is the perfect balance of information and inspiration from someone who’s worked with a lot of challenging messaging in the technical B2B marketing space. As a marketing and messaging consultant myself, even I walked away with insights and techniques for leveling-up my clients’ messaging.
Truly feel like Iâve upskilled as a copywriter after reading this. Written to be clear, helpful, and memorable with lots of tactical and practical advice.
I donât usually rush to buy a book during its first week of release, but I couldnât wait for this one and no regrets!Emma Strattonâs Make It Punchy is a must-read for product marketers. ðªJust Awesome for Messaging:⢠Definitions that clarify the confusion⢠Real-world examples tailored for tech companies⢠Detailed frameworks to guide your process⢠Easy-to-follow instructionsPersonally, I really enjoyed all the:⢠Anecdotes that illustrate key points⢠Analogies to explain features and benefitsI highly recommend !
I just finished reading the new book, Make It Punchy.Very good book and very timely for me.Up till now I’ve pretty much been writing direct response sales pages and emails for course creators and supplement companies etc.But just last week I took on a project to write the messaging for a newly created website for an electrical engineering consultancy company that is B2B.So when I saw the Make It Punchy book on my recommendations on Amazon I decided to purchase it to give me some inspiration for my new B2B messaging project. It has done that and given me some great ideas on how to convey to the client why messaging for his website is so important (I was perceiving that he didn’t really value the messaging as much as how the website was going to look, professionally).I was able to go through the book in a couple of days to give me better talking points, ways of thinking, simple to follow messaging principles, and possible frameworks for my new B2B messaging project for my client’s new website.I realise my new client is not quite in the tech or software space (who the book is targeted at) – but it’s close enough for me to derive great value from your book.I highly recommend this book for anyone tasked with B2B messaging. It’s easy to read, easy to follow, and gives you new confidence to message for any company that is technical ans sells B2B.
This is one of those books that will genuinely influence my work. Thank you Emma Stratton ðð¼I’ve learned from it and I feel validated that the simplicity I seek for my clients is not dumbing it down…it’s making it PUNCHY.It’s written for the tech industry, but the frameworks Emma presents are universally useful for anyone working in messaging, communications and marketing. The key thing I’m taking away is a super simple framework to get absolute clarity in messaging. Oh, and only speak to your A+ audience. The one who will benefit most from, and absolutely love, what you have to offer.
Make It Punchy is a fantastic read if you’re in B2B tech marketing and want to simplify your messaging. Itâs full of practical tips and easy-to-follow steps to help you ditch the jargon and actually connect with your audience. I loved the real-world examples and how it breaks down everything from strategy to writing. If youâre tired of the same old buzzwords and want to stand out, this book is definitely worth a read!
