  2. Inner workers of Youtube
For example the author states how Youtube alters the algorithm to give more exposure to blacks. Page 121: “But despite those successes, we clearly have worked to do when it comes to elevating underrepresented voices(blacks) on our platform, from analyzing our recommendation algorithms to increasing our staff’s diversity to providing more resources and opportunities to black creators.”

  3. From facilitating the emergence of social media celebrities to creating …
From facilitating the emergence of social media celebrities to creating a new revenue stream for new artists, Robert Kyncl and Maany Peyvan provide this illuminating overview of how YouTube is challenging the media paradigm established in the decades prior to the platform’s founding in 2005. The authors provide a broad yet nuanced look into how YouTube is providing a platform for artists, personalities, and companies to connect with and cultivate their audiences in a manner that was previously unavailable by the mass market focus of traditional media corporations and the implications such an open platform has on how media will be produced, distributed, and used in the future. Whether you work for a traditional media company and are grappling with the challenges and opportunities posed by YouTube, are interested in seeking an audience for your own project (music, video, social commentary, new product, and so on), or are looking to understand recent trends in technologies that provide a platform to connect and share, this compelling read by Mr. Kyncl and Mr. Peyvan will have something for you.

  4. Streampunks – Video Bandits Smashing The Anachronistic Media Infrastructure, Re-imagining The Future As We’ll Know It…
Marketers, creators, agency execs, media professionals, and all who are interested in reading and telling great stories… READ THIS BOOK!Robert Kyncl and Maany Peyvan do a masterful job of outlining the rise and role of YouTube and streaming video in the evolving media landscape. This is a fun and informative book that highlights some of YouTube’s biggest stars, and provides nice insight into the care they take in crafting content to delight their audiences. But most importantly, Kyncl and Peyvan provide a primer for all of us looking to create our own narratives and content. In Streampunks – YouTube and the Rebels Remaking Media, we have all the stories, inspiration and principles to create our own movement. For all you marketers and brand geeks out there, reading this book and the stories of all the creators in it will humble you, it will excite you, and it will help you carve out your own piece of the revolution happening 24/7, everyday!

  5. Pretty good read
This book was pretty good telling about the history, present and the future of YouTube . I would recommend it.

  6. Must Read for Today’s Media Professionals
This is a must read for media professionals. We try to fit “new” media into old frameworks. We see this happen all the time in business – copy/paste last year’s op plan. The new platforms that are now here do not conform to the old models. Robert and Maany tell meaningful stories of how media can have an impact beyond what we have seen in the past media. Each chapter gives the reader a fresh insight into how media is being created and consumed differently now and how it can be leveraged for the future. I also applaud the authors for not being self-serving for YouTube (both work there) and being honest about its strengths and shortcomings. This is a rare book in its excellence and its ability to inspire us all about media. The last book I found this inspiring was Digital Impact by Vipin Mayar and Geoff Ramsey. Thank you Robert and Maany.

  7. Awesome Read
Incredible book detailing the immense power that video has on the world today and how the YouTube platform being open and free allows anyone to chart their own destiny. Kudos to Robert Kyncl for writing a great book.

  8. Great research on video-centric media, specially YouTube and other streaming services. The main author uses a very simple writing style, so basically anyone can read this book, although academics will also appreciate the data shared here.

  9. Amazing read! I’m hoping for a follow-up that delves deeper into the multiple revenue streams creators have (no pun intended) created for themselves.
