  1. Great advice for parents – not just for screen time!
I dog-eared sooo many pages of this book while reading! Dr. Rich provides a wonderful and sane approach to screen time, and parenting in general. I really enjoyed reading this and felt so relieved and empowered afterwards. Thank you Dr. Rich!

  2. I love this book!
What an amazing book that gets into the importance of digital ecosystems in this day and age.

  3. A precious gift to kids, parents, and modern society as a whole
This book is a precious gift to kids, parents, and modern society as a whole. It’s full of compassion, practical solutions, and impressive empirical evidence. I believe that children’s screen time is one of the most consequential—yet misunderstood—challenges facing our collective future. Dr. Rich has given us the definitive guide to raising balanced and happy human beings in this age of ubiquitous distraction.

  4. Practical wisdom about cell phones and social media use
I teach (high school history) and have children (a boy age 11 and a girl age 13) of my own. It’s been a true struggle to get any of them to look up from their screens. They are distracted and missing out on things. When I forced them to turn off their phones, they fought me. When I let them go, they never stopped swiping and texting. Who knows what else they were up to? My wife saw Dr. Rich on GMA and got us The Mediatrician’s Guide. We’ve been sharing sections and talking over how to handle different situations. The book is filled with common sense wisdom, backed by scientific studies, just the sort of “teaching” I needed. He’s given us the courage to do some things we should have done a long time ago. We have now started monitoring our kids’ social media. No phones at the table. No phones while doing homework. Lights out, no more phone. At school, I have started requiring students to put their phones away for the first 45 minutes of class (you should have heard the groans) but leave them 5 minutes at the end when they can pull them out. It’s a balancing act. I’m also planning projects that will incorporate social media to go with class topics. There’s no simple solution to cell phones and social media that’s taken over all of our brains. But thanks, Dr. Rich, this sure helps.

  5. The Guide To Consult on Digital Well Being
As the parent of young adults and an expert on child development I have encountered every aspect of the rise of a digital culture— the good, the bad and the ugly! This book by Dr Rich is an extraordinary toolkit for navigating the ‘digital wild west.’ The author is no egghead Harvard professor— rather he is a skilled diagnostician and clinician who has seen it all IRL. I especially liked how practical and non-hysterical his advice is— actionable for parents who are trying to figure out what is an appropriate digital diet, right from the start. My generation had Dr. Brazelton to guide us through the moments of child rearing confusion. This one needs more of Dr. Rich’s sensible approach to baby videos, Roblox, Meta and Mean Girls! This guide is one you will use often and well.

  6. Solutions Over Fear
Doctor Rich’s book is one of the most practical resources out there. After his many years of practice and pioneering work, he’s consolidated the best learnings for parents at all stages. We highly suggest this at our organization as a first step for any parent looking to transition from fear to empowerment!

  7. This book is an essential read for anyone seeking to navigate the promise and perils of raising children in today’s technology-infused world. In his remarkable book, Dr. Michael Rich, a revered pediatrician at Harvard Medical School, presents not just a guide, but a journey into the heart of raising and supporting our next generation. Dr. Rich generously shares his groundbreaking research, and then gives it depth with his practical wisdom as a doctor, shaped as a wise listener to thousands of parents, teachers, medical professionals, and especially children and adolescents around the world. This book is a directional beacon for parenting in the digital age.Philip McRae, PhD Executive Staff Officer/Associate Coordinator, Government-Research Alberta Teachers’ Association Adjunct Professor of Education, University of Alberta

  8. All parents and educators should read Dr. Rich’s excellent book. This pediatrician is a rare expert on this important issue.
