“Fred Rogers, Ted Lasso, Dan Shiffman. These are the people I want to emulate, to learn from, and to look up to. The Nature of Code is an incredibly deep but shockingly accessible overview of the JavaScript Language and the incredible mind of Dan Shiffman. What a joy to explore both!”
—Scott Hanselman, VP Developer Community, Microsoft
“Wonderful”
“What a way to explain the complex! Dan has always had a knack for making the difficult seem easy on his wonderfully successful YouTube channel. Things are equally as wonderful in his book. The hands-on approach he encourages students to take before jumping into detailed analysis builds curiosity in any problem solver.”
—Ania Kubow, @aniakubow, Software Developer and Course Creator on “Code with Ania Kubow”
“Engaging”
“A wonderful exploration of natural systems using approachable, witty, and smart examples that any programmer can read and implement on their own. Conversational and engaging, Dan has hit another home run with this one!”
—Rob Conery, author of The Imposter’s Handbook

Fun coding that makes you feel smart
I mean itâs Dan, this book is great – nice to have something solid in your hands, code easily explained and make things visually in not time at all.
Understanding the beauty of the world that surrounds us
One of the best books surveying the vast topic of computation and nature (and back). Each chapter has a clear articulation and gives a solid introduction to the topic allowing readers to put theory into practice within a couple of pages.
Beatiful book
Relaxing, interesting, explains in a casual yet well constructed content. As a programer , begginer or not, it’s a recommended lecture.
This book unlocked the beauty of autonomous motion and vector math for me.
This book was a life raft for me when I was lost in my traditional programming classes within a computer science department. It gave me the hands on, trial-and-error friendly learning I needed to understand how to bridge computation and my creative ambitions. The lessons show how simple, atomic programming concepts can be layered to create complex, lifelike systems â I don’t know why more computer science courses aren’t taught like this.
Fascinating and Enlightening
Beautiful work of art inside and out. The legend Dan âCoding Trainâ Shiffman has created a must read for anyone interested in Generative Art and Computational Media. Sure you can read this book online for free or watch his videos but there is something about holding a physical masterwork in you hands that connects you to the topic. I recommend this book to all my students.
I have the previous book and I enjoy the updated JavaScript version immensely
The content is carefully written. The book cover is of a harder material and the book is treaded binding which will grant it a higher expected life and endurance.
The print quality is very good, the paper sheets of good quality and the content is clear. There is a website withe examples that accompany the book.
Muy buen libro con explicaciones muy claras.
Recomiendo también al autor Daniel Shiffman, hace videos y streamings en YouTube y en Twitch aplicando lo que se aprende en este libro.
