This Book Tells About Some Of The Possible Hazards Caused By Big Tech
While technology can good and helpful in some circumstances and some situations, it can also be harmful and abusive in other circumstances and other situations. This book points out some of the drawbacks of technology being abused by some people. Some of the interesting things that are mentioned in this book by the author of the book include the following information: By 2011, 46% of people in the U.S. reported that they owned and used smartphones. By 2019, that number had gone up to 81%. Facebook processed more data on more individuals than any other company on planet Earth. A 2014 study of phone users in the UK found owners checking their smartphones 221 times a day coming out to once every 4.3 minutes. By mid-2010, one study reported that older children and teens could manage a mere six minutes of studying before indulging the compulsive need to pick up their smartphones and reconnect with social media. One study from Pew Research Center in 2018 showed that fully 43% of people in the U.S. got their news from Facebook. For those people who want to know more about the harmful effects of technology on society, this is an informative book to read. The author of this book mentions that although he has a presence in social media, there are limits to his presence.
Outstanding book .
The author is a hero . In spite of terrible censorship in the US Josh was able to risk it all and publish this book. his dedication to truth exposed him to danger from the globalist oligarchs that run this country. The tyranny of the oligarchs must be stopped, the monopolies broken up .The globalist oligarchs are responsible for bringing our country to bankrupcy through endless wars and foolish money printing . The media is in their monopolistic hands , so little is known about the real State of the Union.
Eye opening
Well written and keeps it to the facts of what he knows. Make you not want to have social media
Yes, I actually read the book before writing this review!
This is an important book and I give it my strongest recommendation. It is an eye opener for those who are open minded enough to read it. Well written with facts supported by a large number of footnoted references for those who wish to review those sources. I have lived long life based on observing and searching out information as well as reviewing and comparing opposing opinions. I do no believe the the negative reviews of this book are accurate based on the reading of the Senator’s book. I wonder if the authors of the negative opinions have taken the effort to read and consider Senator Hawley’s points and data. As a former combat veterans, college instructor, business manager, grandparent and parent I believe we each a have a responsibility to seek out facts and truth. As a senior citizen I worry about the future of our country for my children and grand-children. Our country’s future depends on the our ability to absorb and analyze information even when it does not fit into our bias (and we all have them). “None are so unknowing as those who close their mind.” My advice in do not let other’s think for you, that is both your privilege and responsibility. Read this book and make up you own mind
Good topical read for this point in time
The book is about what you expect from the title. Josh provides some good insight on the steps government and big tech are taking to protect and indoctrinate our youth. Unfortunately, kids and many parents do not understand how we are all under manipulation by these out-of-control tech companies. As a parent, I highly recommend this read, and follow that up with taking steps to educate your children to not fall into the manipulation trap. Think for yourselves and questions EVERYTHING!
The brutal truth about Big Tech
Josh did a great job of covering the power and corruption of Big Tech. This includes how they are monopolies, that they don’t care about your privacy, and that they censor people they disagree with.He does have a chapter on what each of us can do, but I will add some suggestions. Google and Facebook makes almost all of their revenue from advertising. Do everything possible to keep them from using your data for advertising and use products that don’t censor. If you use apple make sure you turn off Settings/Tracking/”Allow Apps to Request to Track” This will keep any apps from using your data for advertising. If you don’t want to get censored while doing searches. Replace the google search engine with another product such as “Duck Duck Go”. The default search engine can be set in the browser you are using. Use Apple maps instead of Google maps if you want to keep Google from tracking where you go. If you want to get Google out of your life, don’t have a Google login, don’t use the Chrome browser, and don’t use gmail. If you use Facebook, don’t get your news from their site, and don’t click on any sponsored links while using Google or Facebook.
Hawley 2024
I made an effort to show support for Hawley after the January 6th protest at the Capital so I pre-ordered this book and then donated to his campaign. Then i kind of forgot about the book for a couple of months haha. But when it finally came and I started reading it, I really liked it. It is a shorter read (about 170 pages) but that is OK cause I just got done with Ross Douthat’s new book and Carl Trueman’s new book as well so i wanted a faster read this time though. The part i like is how Josh Hawley ties whats is happening today to the past 100 years of the progressive movement in the USA. I feel as though the Wilsonian Era and then the New Deal and then the Great Society has been this march towards a massive govt-massive corporation partnership that we all live under now and that is by design of the Democrat Party. It has to change or we will never get our country back. I personally love Josh’s politics and I am excited to see how he does in the 2024 primary and i am also eager to read the three part biographical series on Teddy Roosevelt
I gave this only three stars because politician Senator Josh Hawley has bought into identity politics: workers vs elites. This is an ideological fault that detracts from the value of this book in fighting the very real existential threat of the tyranny of big tech. But the description and prescription that he gives makes the book a valuable counterattack in the war for our civilization. This book belongs on the shelf with Slanted, Breaking the News, Hollywood Propaganda, #Deleted and so many more. It can be a window on truth for readers drowning in the Fake News flood.
