Cooking/Gaming Heaven!
First of all, I know itâs a cookbook but I just love the gaming history! Amazing and comprehensive! So many details tooâ¦the contents listed in the order of games developed to present day, just wow! Recipes listed with degree of difficulty. Clever! Then this author also included hints or â helpful nuggetsâ, suggestions for alternative ingredients and possible easy cheats in case one wants to whiz right through to a fast game snackâ¦you knowâ¦in case you canât pull yourself away too long in getting to your next game level! Just at a glance I know I already want to try the Spicy Curry, the Crab Rangoon, and that chili dog recipe and include this authors suggestion adding the pickled jalapeños. And what gamer would not want to make the Spicy Ramen! Just as with Cassandra Reederâs other cookbooks, I both enjoy the reading and history she always provides, but the recipes are to die forâ¦well, hopefully just get to the next level of cooking!
Gamer Chef
The first time my boyfriend has ever had an interest in cooking! Definitely recommend as a way to encourage the gamers in your life to learn to cook.
Perfect!
Bought this for Christmas. Made for the best of both my kiddoâs world, a gamer who loves to cook. Awesome concept, only down side is there are no realistic pictures of the food.
A REALLY fun cookbook – great way to encourage a love of cooking in kiddos
Let’s pretend for a second that we really did pick up this Video Game Chef cookbook for the pre-teen kiddo (we didn’t), but honestly if we had it would have been a stroke of parenting genius. The truth is though, the kiddo’s two gamer parents picked it up because it had recipes inspired by games they loved as kids and still love as adults, and even a bunch that we’re too old to appreciate but that the kid is crazy about. It has recipes inspired by the last 50-some years of gaming and it’s fantastic and we’ve had fun for the last few months choosing them one at a time to experiment with or sometimes 4-5 when we’ve gotten ambitious and made an entire dinner of video game courses. We originally thought this was going to be for the parents, but as soon as the kiddo laid eyes on the cookbook we couldn’t keep her out of the kitchen…at least when one of these recipes was involved. She still somehow vanished into thin air any time the dishwasher had to be unloaded or the garbage needed to be taken out, go figure. It has instilled a genuine love of cooking in the kiddo in a way that we’ve never seen from her, even moreso than when we’d make cookies and she knew spoons covered in cookie dough would be up for grabs. Her desire to find recipes from games she’s spent the last 7 years of her life playing is her latest obsession and this book gets all the credit for it.It’s even inspired her to try some really retro games that she balked at earlier because of their super lo-res graphics (ironic coming from a generation raised on Minecraft, but oh well). It doesn’t hurt that some of these recipes are genuinely really good, although there’s a bit of bias here as we headed right to the Elder Scrolls “Sweetrolls” recipe and the “Mana Potion” drink, so we started off on the sweet snack-ish and fruity drink route before diving into more savory entrees (which also turned out surprisingly well. The point being, this isn’t just a novelty book, the recipes are genuinely quite good and it can go a long way towards getting your kids to love cooking.***Overall Value***There are a LOT of recipes packed in here despite how thin it looks, so the $20 (at the time of review) price isn’t bad at all, and the love of cooking it’s instilled in the kiddo is an even greater value.
Pure Nostalgia
As a retro gamer, this was my jam. Even if it wasn’t a cookbook, it’s a highly entertaining read through the history of food in video games, so for that alone it’s really impressive. I appreciated that there were a lot of Asian and Japanese dishes (given the makeup of the video game industry) and there’s a good mix of popular and indie titles. All the foods are directly from the video games too, nothing generic. Overall, it’s clear that a lot of love and research went into this.I think there’s a good mix of easy and more difficult recipes. Admittedly I’ve tried only a handful of the recipes because I’ve only had it for a couple days, the ones I have done have been tasty and the instruction were thorough and easy to follow. I immediately did the Wall Meat (pan-seared pork chop with garlic butter) because I’m a huge Castlevania fan and it was phenomenal and super quick. Definitely going to make that again. I also whipped up the Chili Dog (Sonic the Hedgehog) and that chili sauce is going to be my go-to from now on.The digital art might throw off some buyers. I personally liked them and all the little game references hidden inside each one. I just wish there were more of them.I think the best use-case for this book is going to be getting children and teens invested in cooking. My 4 year old daughter loved flipping through it because of the bright and colorful artwork and has been begging me to make the Pokeblocks (flavored candies) with her since we got it. The recipe seems easy enough for a kid to help with so that’s what we’re doing this weekend.
I got this for my (adult) sons Christmas apparently but, really I got it for me. The recipes are actually accessible and doable which I was surprised about as Iâd thought there would be a lot of stuff that was just there for the jokes. Truly a fantastic cookbook and a lot of thought has gone into it.
Came on time and in perfect condition. Has perfect quality as well. Has really cool recipes in it from all kinds of different games but never repeats a game twice so I can see recipes from games that I have never heard of before. I also get to make my favorite recipes from Legend of Zelda which is one of my favorite games ever.
As a huge gamer and a huge foodie, I was very excited for this book. However, I was disappointed to find that many of the recipes that were advertised were not in the book. For example, Persona 5 Leblanc curry was not present, but instead Persona 5 Pancakes recipe was present. Also, I am not sure if the author has even played Elden Ring. Describing the foes in the Lands Between as “creatures” could not be more inaccurate.

Je reconnait plusieurs recettes de jeux vidéo. J’ai hâte d’essayer les potions de vie et de mana. Attention, quelques ingrédients sont relativement difficiles à trouver.
