Vested Interest
It’s been a long time since a contemporary RH has captured me from the beginning enough for me to give it five stars. This was probably for like 4.5, but close enough for rounding up. Lol. Besides all five of the MMCs being ridiculously attractive (as they always are in a romance novel, right?), the storyline and romantic arcs seemed pretty realistic and organic. I don’t know much about software engineering, so don’t fact-check me on that side of things. I loved the personalities of Emma and her roommate/bestie, and their friendship and interactions were written beautifully. I liked the focus the author put on them instead of only on the FMC/MMC relationships. On to book two!
I need more!
**Cliffhanger-ish Warning!** This story is pretty good, but it’s incomplete. I think it’s because the books were re-edited and broken up differently from how they were before. So, I’m guessing this first installment is not supposed to be a “book,” but a part of a book. I’m just glad that I started reading this when the series is complete, so I can find out what happens with Emma’s project, her guys, and the bad guy(s).I like that the characters are not in school, they’re kind of mature, smart, and they seem to take responsibility for their actions. So far, the romance is more about everyone’s attraction and getting to know each other, with only a couple of sexy scenes.I enjoyed Emma’s cooking experiments, her punny jokes, and her dedication to her project. Having said that, towards the end of this book, I wondered why there aren’t any police or private investigators involved. Somebody hacked her bank and stole her money. Then somebody frames her for stealing and she gets fired. I liked that she got angry and had a fit of breaking and hitting things. She seems like a real person.Only a few typos, nothing too distracting. I am going to read the next book in the series.
Absolutely in love with these characters!
I can honestly say I am flabbergasted as to why I hadnât read this series by Bethany Jadin before!! I was immediately sucked into the story, loved Emma and her back story and personality. I am an engineer so I love the glimpses of nerdiness in this book. I feel for Emma and I want to see her succeed so much. I love seeing the process of coding/selling the product and what people go through to get those kind of deals/proprietary information. Created enough intrigue to go with the romance and sexy scenes â¤ï¸I am happy to see she isnât one of those MCs that is weak/is taken for a fool. I like that she is cautious and shy but there is a minx that is waiting to be let out haha. I adore her friendship with Zoe and am excited for her to become friends with the sisters as well! I am hoping Zoey gets her own spinoff, which would be fantastic and pretty dang funny in my opinion. I didnt think I would laugh so much while reading this book because of the storyline and the tension/heat factor. The goofiness and honest lightness that is added I think elevates this story. Keep it up ladies!!Now to the guys….I love all of them. I think my favorites based on Book 1 are Trigg and Gunner but I already start book 2 and another one has jumped into the the top hahaha. I love how different they are, but they have something connecting them that is stronger than blood. I think they are adorable with Emma and cant wait to see them take it to the next level with her (and maybe each other?!?!). I love how touchy-feely Trigg is, how dorky and goofy Gunner is. How mysterious and protective Jax is. How super nerdy, gentlemanly, and honest Daniel is. I think Jude will be a wild horse since he is good at leading (and may be dominant, we shall see haha).I would highly recommend this series. I am already 40% into Book 2 and plan to binge read the series this weekend haha. Dont miss out on this amazing story that has well written connections/relationships, just enough steam/the perfect heat factor, and brings up interesting and refreshing topics/issues ð
I have some mixed feelings
Overall it was a good book, but enough stuff bothered me to put me off a little bit. Consider most of this review to be mildly spoiler-ish.One, they didnât use protection or address it at all? In either scene? Did I miss something? It seems like a huge, glaring oversight. Two, the whole âwe are enlightened men so we know what she really needs when she has a problemâ theme was kind of irritating. The author traded the overprotective white knight routine for another cliche that is actually far more irritating if you ask me. At least if the guys are openly trying to be overprotective then the girl can interfere and manage the situation if she doesnât like it. Also, if done well the first trope is at least fun.Three, the angry scene there near the end was just…weird. It felt so out of place compared to the rest of the book.Four, she never actually coded in the book. For an author obviously trying hard (maybe too hard) to show a modern woman in a manâs field, and going out of the way to cater to modern sensibilities about how a strong woman should behave…she spent an awful lot of time in the kitchen. A large chunk of the book really. That struck me as weird, too.So, what did I love about the book? Gunner. And the slow development of the relationships. The characters were well-developed and the dialogue flowed well.Overall, I think if you are looking for a more traditional white knight, over-protective reverse harem story, or the exact opposite with more modern sensibilities and a strong female lead…you are going to feel at least somewhat dissatisfied either way. The book failed to commit to either direction, and the mix of the two is just odd. Maybe the author will settle more on what direction in later books. I may give the next one a try to see where it goes. I havenât decided yet.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s rare to find contemporary RH, especially one based in the IT and tech world. This took on a new theme and is giving it a really good base and building up an enjoyable plot and story. I liked all the characters involved, and loved that the FMC, Emma, has a supportive and close friendship with Zoey. The guys are all slightly different, but so, so hot. They gel well together and their friendship is built well. There were a few hot moments in the book, but at the moment it’s a slow build with lots of tension between them all. I love the build up and the tension so am really enjoying reading it and looking forward to seeing what that progresses too. For a first book from two brand new authors I thought it was executed really well. I’m very much looking forward to reading the next book.
This was a great start to this series. Some comedy and light hearted fun. Also some hot sex! Can’t wait to see where this story goes.
Could not put this book down! Such a great read. Everything from the writing style to the storyline to the change in POV from the female to the multiple men in this RH. Just ugh! So good!Really glad I picked this book up. Definitely a slow burn, but I’m excited to see the progression of the relationships between all the characters. I love that there are hints at what COULD happen in the coming books, but nothing is set in stone. The read is very easy and fluid, allowing you to see how the characters perceive each moment in the story. Can’t wait for book #2!
This is a slow-burn contemporary reverse harem/ why choose.Emma is a tech geek and is developing some very sought-after software that has several companies interested. One of which is Pentabyte, run by 5 extremely hot friends. There’s an instant attraction between Emma and the guys. It feels like they’ve been watching her for quite a while.I like how the guys were such good friends and how they are all different, lots of banter and ribbing between them.Emma was mostly likeable, she went on some mad bizarre cooking frenzy every time she got stressed and she lacked a lot of self-confidence after the way her last relationship ended. As she tries to finish her software, bad things start to happen which seem too coincidental.Overall a great start to a series. Not steamy yet, but a lot of tension between Emma and the guys.
I gotta say I love this series! It is one of my absolute favourites, this is just the book I needed to reread to get me out of my book slump. There were lots of laugh out loud moments along with plenty of chemistry which keeps the story flowing well.I love these characters.Emma is this shy nerdy chick, but still has confidence in who she is. She is a software engineer and looking to finish her current coding software and sell it on which is how she meets the guys of Pentabyte. Jude is the team leader, Daniel is the software genius, Jax is the Chief Information Officer, Gunner is the Seller/Marketer and Trigg is the moneyman. and OMG are these guys all swoon worthy hot. I am definitely Team Jax and Gunner, even tho the seem like total opposites. Jax is an Alpha bad boy biker and Gunner is the goofy daredevil. The chemistry between Emma and the guys is hot, they have this attraction that just pulls them towards each other. There are small touches from the guys and I feel there lots of sexual tension but there has only been one kiss from one of the guys and I am loving the build up.
