Interesting book
But I wish it was more into the CMD commands their selves.
a good general book on PC
easy read for technical book, and good general book to know about PCs
Anyone who wants a good guide/teaching book, this is it
I have purchased this book twice. It is a very well written, easy to understand and has just what one needs to be successful at IT and computer mastery. This is on of several books I keep at my desk, love it.
Good Resource
At TechEd this year I had the opportunity to put my hands on this book prior to buying. Looking through it, it appears to have some good information. You’re not getting the usual bit of standard commands that everyone and their grandmother knows like “ipconfig /all”. You’re actually getting some good information to build into scripts or batch files that can help shorten your day. It also does a good job of explaining the process and application. It is evident that the author put some thought into this book. Additionally, it’s published by Sybex. Typically that’s a safe bet. After flipping through the book for around 30 minutes in the MS bookstore I went online to Amazon and found it for 2/3’s of the price…of course. I opted to go ahead and spring for it.I also think that the book is a good reference point for other information as well. For example, it covers some of the commands to work with WMI and WinRM, both vitally important in W2K8. In addition, it might help get your wheels spinning on other areas to explore.I gave it 4 stars because I do not see this book as a one stop authoritative source on all. However, it was apparent that it had some good information. I consider myself a moderate command line guy, as I spend 50% of my time on the job working inside Server Core (yes, one of the few adopters, and we have a fairly expansive server base that runs only Server Core). I anticipate that this book is going to help me shorten up some of my work and get some automation going. If nothing else, it will serve as a good starting point, and I can go more in depth with additional research. It does serve as a good reference for the shelf, especially when you need info fast, and the innerweb may not always be an option.Good book. Would recommend for $20. I’m a little hesitant at $30 though, as the book calls for on the back cover.
Trouble shooting and speed up computer
This is just what I was looking for to speed up and trouble shoot my computer. This book has some of the steps the Geek Squad uses to fix you computer if you.take it to Best Buy.
Helpful for most issues
This book does not have a complete list of all commands. I found the commands I needed on-line and not in this book
Must buy!
This is a really good reference book.
The is an in depth knowledge of the Command Line software. It requires a lot of reading.
I disliked nothing. Excellent source of info.
Even though I’m already retired, I’m still interested in programming via the command line. Now I found a book whose scope is a surprise to me.I haven’t read it cover to cover, but I’ve picked up interesting things. The table of contents alone is 10 pages long. I will list only the main chapters below:Part I: Comamnd Line BasicsPart II: Managing DataPart III: Managing the NetworkPart IV: Interacting with Active DirectoryPart V: Performing DiagnosticsPart VI: Performing MaintenancePart VII: Creating Batch FilesPart VIII: Creating ScriptsAppendix A: Alphabetical Command ListAppendix B: Topical Command ListAppendix C: Listing of Best PractisesWith my best Recommendations!
Excellent value for money and is fairly easy to follow
If your a command guru this book is for you
I haven’t gone through each and every page yet. Appears to be more like a pocketbook for easy reference. The seller provided the book in brand new condition.
This was an excellent resource while troubleshooting Windows issues as part of my classwork studying IT. Many of my classmates suggested that it was fine to have online versions or other sites you could access through your phone, but I found that I preferred a print version. Anytime the internet was not accessible (common enough in troubleshooting), I found everyone else preferred my print version as well.
