Harry and William: Diana statue ‘superficial gesture’ says Lacey

The 95-year-old was pictured behind the wheel less than an hour after the Duke of Sussex entered his UK residence, which is located close to Windsor Castle. Harry, 36, made the trip from California alone and will attend a statue unveiling of his late mother at Kensington Palace on Thursday. The Queen is understood to be keen to speak to her grandson and act as a “peacemaker” in the wake of a series of public attacks on The Firm by the Sussexes.

A source told The Sun: “It is quite something. No sooner had Harry been driven from Heathrow to Frogmore Cottage the Queen was on her way down.

“I’m sure they would have plenty to talk about.

“The Queen would obviously want to see her grandson after everything that has gone on and could take this opportunity to act as the peacemaker.”

Harry touched down at Heathrow’s Terminal Five at 12.38pm on a Boeing 777-323 on American Airlines flight AA134.

He will have to quarantine for five days before he is given the all clear to attend the event next week.

It is hoped the event will help to heal an ongoing rift between Harry and his old brother William.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, is not expected to attend Princess Diana’s statue unveiling next week.

On Friday, Kensington Palace released details about the highly anticipated royal event. 

A statement revealed that Prince Harry and Prince William will be attending the event alongside “close family of Diana, Princess of Wales, members of the statue committee, the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, and garden designer Pip Morrison”.

Neither Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle were mentioned in the statement which suggests that they will not be attending the unveiling.

Sophie Wessex has always been in the background, dutifully fulfilling her royal tasks and staying out of the spotlight. However, over recent months she has emerged on everyone’s radar.

According to royal author Ingrid Seward, the 56-year-old is encouraged by the Queen to fill the glaring gap left by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle upon leaving for California.

Ingrid Seward told The Times: “The Queen is very canny. And she has always been very fond of Sophie. 

“Prince Philip adored Sophie, and the Queen feels that now is the moment to push her, just gently. ‘Give some interviews, do some stuff. You work very hard, no one takes any notice. Get out there.’ I can see her saying that.”

Over the years the former royal chef has shocked fans of the Firm with his culinary revelations – including one mystery involving the Queen’s love for burgers.

In an interview with Insider, Mr McGrady revealed the Queen never eats fast food, but makes an exception for burgers.

2.40am update: Royal Mint launch new £5 coin celebrating the life and legacy of Prince Philip

The Royal Mint has unveiled its new commemorative coin, celebrating the life and legacy of Prince Philip.

The Duke, who passed away in April, served as president of The Royal Mint Advisory Committee for several years.

The official memorial coin features an original portrait of The Duke of Edinburgh on a £5 crown, which was personally approved by Prince Philip himself.

The original coin makers have also said they will make a £50,000 donation to The Duke of Edinburgh award schemes to support work in the UK and internationally. 

1.45am update: Meghan Markle and Princess Diana show ‘remarkable symmetry’ says Royal biographer

Meghan Markle would be seen as a “fellow spirit” by Princess Diana, a royal biographer has said.

Andrew Morton, an acclaimed Royal author, believes the late Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex would have been two birds of a feather.

Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, Mr Morton explained that both Royals had a similar experience while part of the Firm.

He said: “There are endless stories about Meghan… Diana would see a fellow spirit.”

12.20am update: Harry challenged by Palace after Duke made ‘aggressive’ public charge

Prince Harry was challenged by the Palace after he issued an “aggressive and confrontational” public statement, a royal author claimed.

Harry is on his way back to the UK after his flight left Los Angeles airport late on Thursday evening.

Royal watchers are now anticipating his meeting with Prince William. The pair have had a tense relationship in recent years, only made worse by Harry’s broadcast interview appearances where he and Meghan Markle aimed allegations at the Royal Family.

Harry has also become increasingly critical of royal life, citing it as the root of many of his struggles including his battles with mental health.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, stunned in a salmon pink blazer, white t-shirt and jeans as she met children taking part in a charity project. A body language expert has claimed the Duchess’s ‘modified her gestures’ to suit the dressed-down look.

The 39-year-old is a royal fashion icon and every outfit she wears is carefully analysed by fans. On Tuesday the Duchess seemed to send a modernising message as she stepped out to meet children taking part in the Natural History Museum’s Urban Nature Project.

While Kate often dresses up for engagements, on this occasion she opted for a casual look, sporting jeans, a white t-shirt, pink blazer and trainers.

9.10pm update: Camilla shows ‘high levels of anxiety’ and ‘happy’ to let Charles take ‘centre stage’

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall joined the Royal Family in 2005 when she married Prince Charles. An expert has claimed that the royal still shows “high levels of anxiety” when in public.

Camilla Parker Bowles is a senior working member of the Royal Family and will often visit charities and organisations on her duties. As well as appearing with Prince Charles, the Duchess will often make solo visits.

Prince Harry has been slated by a royal expert for his claim he was “literally cut off” by his father Prince Charles after Megxit.  While the statement has since been clarified by a Sussex spokesperson, the commentator argued “the damage has already been done.”

Prince Harry, 36, and his father Prince Charles, 72, publically locked horns in recent days after Clarence House issued a statement that seemed to contradict the Duke of Sussex’s assertion her received no financial help from his father following Megxit.

During his March interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry told the chatshow host that he and Meghan Markle, 39, signed lucrative deals with streaming companies after they were cut off financially from the Firm.

Prince William tried to warn about Megxit happening but Prince Harry went “mental” at his brother’s advice, a royal author claimed.

William and Harry are preparing to reunite next month in what is likely to be a tense but amicable meeting.

The pair will attend an unveiling of a statue of their late mother, Princess Diana, which will go on display at Kensington Palace.

Multiple reports suggest Harry will arrive in the UK this week in order to complete the required quarantine period.

Archie will inherit the Earl of Dumbarton title from Prince Harry “whether he likes it or not” the royal expert has raged.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided not to give Archie Harrison the earldom amid fears it contains the word “dumb”, recent reports have claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were allegedly concerned it could result in unfortunate nicknames.

But Sunrise royal editor Robert Jobson said: “The story in the Telegraph is suggesting that the word dumb, which seems ridiculous, they felt would be derogatory to Archie.

“The truth is he is still the Earl of Dumbarton when he goes to Scotland. The royals have different titles for different areas of the UK.

“Harry, if he ever does come back and goes to Scotland, he’s not known as the Duke of Sussex he’s known as the Earl of Dumbarton and his son is the heir to that.

Princess Eugenie has quietly resumed her charity work, only a few months after giving birth to her son August Philip Hawke.

Princess Eugenie paid a secret visit to Caritas Bakhita House, an organisation providing a safe refuge to women escaping human trafficking, it has been revealed.

The royal was accompanied by her friend Julia de Boinville, with whom Eugenie co-founded the Anti-Slavery Collective.

Their organisation aims to connect policymakers, journalists, survivors and individuals to raise awareness on modern slavery and put an end to it.

3.25pm update: Queen’s adorable response after Canadian Royal Navy Major tells kids she ‘fights pirates’

The Queen had a sweet exchange with a member of the Legal Branch of the Canadian Navy who has been away from home for several months.

The Queen has celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Legal Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces by presenting them with a royal banner.

The monarch spoke to a few members of the branch via video link to hear about their duties, life and challenges.

2.45pm update: Beatrice’s husband refers to unborn child in emotional message

Princess Beatrice’s husband has referred to their unborn child in an emotional post on social media in tribute to his late step-father.

Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took to Instagram to mark the 10th anniversary of Christopher Shale’s death.

The millionaire property tycoon said he wished his step-father had got to meet his grandchildren, including his and Beatrice’s impending arrival.

Beatrice’s husband shared a series of snaps of his step-father in the touching Instagram post.

1.50pm update: Charles makes awkward blunder during investiture ceremony

Prince Charles mixed up EastEnders with Coronation Street in an awkward blunder at an investiture ceremony yesterday.

The Prince of Wales presented honours at the royal investiture at St James’s Palace on Thursday.

But he confused EastEnders for rival soap Coronation Street as he gave actor Rudolph Walker his award.

Mr Walker, who plays Queen Vic stalwart Patrick Trueman, revealed Charles had briefly mixed up the soaps.

But he said the royal apologised immediately and that it had all been “very lighthearted”.

12.30pm update: Philip’s legacy celebrated in exhibition of prized possessions

Royal portraits, crowns and robes yesterday went on display alongside a native American headdress, personalised cowboy boots and a giant grasshopper to celebrate the life of Prince Philip.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April aged 99, was closely involved in planning the exhibition at Windsor Castle, which was originally intended to mark his 100th birthday on June 10.

And the eclectic collection is bound to give visitors a revealing glimpse into the much-loved ­royal’s long and eventful life.

11.40am update: Meghan and Harry cut-off claims show pair ‘out of touch’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s claims that the Royal Family financially cut them off has been criticised by an Aussie TV host who called the couple “out of touch”.

Edwina Bartholomew said: “There seems to be some kind of argument over the timing, so I don’t think they outright told a lie.”

“I do think it makes them look even more out of touch, when you’re talking about gazillions of dollars.”

11.10am update: Harry and Meghan teased by football club for rejecting Dumbarton title

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been teased by a football club after reports they rejected the Earl of Dumbarton title for Archie because it contained the word “dumb”.

Dumbarton FC took to Twitter to poke fun at claims the Duke and Duchess of Sussex turned down the Scottish title for their son.

They shared a hilarious meme of five figures dressed as clowns and dunces with “we will not be dumb” written on a blackboard behind them.

The football club joked in the caption: “No offence taken @RoyalFamily.”

Dumbarton FC’s tweet comes after reports Harry and Meghan rejected the title over fears Archie would be bullied.

Meghan Markle ditched her royal title on the birth certificate of Lilibet Diana. 

The Duchess of Sussex used Rachel Meghan Markle for her daughter’s birth certificate.

This marks a contrast to the birth certificate of Archie Harrison, where Meghan’s royal title was included.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle feature in a new Royal Family exhibition despite their decision to quit the Firm.

Harry and Meghan’s relationship with Royal Family has been tense ever since the couple lifted the lid on their time as senior royals during their TV interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

But despite the Sussexes having quit the Firm in March 2020 and their ongoing rift with the Palace, they are still honoured in a new exhibition examining Britain’s monarchy.

Prince Harry has left California for the UK to attend the unveiling of the statue of Princess Diana.

The Duke of Sussex was spotted arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday evening.

Harry’s return comes two months after his last trip to Britain.

8.20am update: Royal Family U-turn has exposed Meghan and Harry

The Royal Family’s decision to abandon the Queen’s famous “never complain, never explain” mantra has exposed claims made by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, according to a royal commentator.

Angela Levin claimed the Royal Family records that demonstrate Prince Charles did continue to fund Harry and Meghan in the immediate aftermath of their exit from the monarchy indicate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told a “blatant lie”.

The royal commentator also told talkRADIO as time goes on the Sussexes “look more and more nasty”.

7.45am update: William and Harry ‘forced to scrap large ceremony for unveiling’

Princes William and Harry have had to make drastic last minute cuts to their guest list for the unveiling of the statue in honour of their late mother Princess Diana, according to reports.

The two brothers had originally invited 100 of their mother’s friends, supporters and former staff to the momentous event.

Pop legend Elton John and David Furnish, who contributed to the funding of the memorial, were some of the famous names due to be present.

However, Covid rules have apparently forced the brothers into a major rethink.

The event will now be attended only by the Princes and some of the Spencer relatives, according to the Daily Mail.

7.30am update: Harry blasted for ‘moaning’ about money

Prince Harry has been blasted for whining about money during his infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey following the publication of royal accounts.

Writing in the Telegraph, commentator Robert Taylor said: “Is there anything more unseemly than rich people complaining about money?

“By any normal standards, Harry and Meghan are super-wealthy. They have an estimated joint worth of nearly £10million, and live in a luxury pad in California overlooking the Pacific. They mix with millionaires and billionaires.

“Yet Harry saw fit to moan, in that blockbuster interview with Oprah, that his father had ‘literally’ cut him off.”
